Progress With Data

Seeing that Dude Danger is in the concepts stages I thought I would get started on the Sidekick 'Data'. I have worked on Data a little bit this week but today as been the day were most of my ideas have come together. To start off with I've done a thumbnail, due to Data being the clever yet funny one of the duo I thought I would do some planning before I did some sketches.
Before I did some sketches I also worked on main details of the body to see how they would look from different angles. Once I finished this I then started to do some sketches to give me a better idea on how Data was going to look.

After all the planning here is some of the sketches that I have came up with today. At the moment the sketch on the left is my main design. A few details still need to be added but for the most part Data is nearly done.
I should have an update on Data's progress very soon. Once Data is ready for the concept stages then I can get started on the alien race.

Well that's everything for now.

Level and Character Progress #2

This week I have been mainly working on my character designs. For the most part I have been working on my main character who is now called 'Dude Danger'. At first when designed this character I was going for more of a mass effect-Duke Nukem look. As you can see in this picture I have used the same amour from Mass effect but soon after this idea was scrapped.

While I was working on Dude Danger I wanted to mess around with different facial expressions like you can see here. Once I scrapped the whole Mass Effect idea I wanted to go for a more cheesy kind of look so I went for more a 70s-80s look. That's why I used the name 'Dude Danger' I find it very cheesy.
I also worked on a few different poses for Dude Danger. I wanted him to look strong so I give him the whole 'Super Man' kinda of look and I think its worked really well.
I feel like this is going to be pretty close to the final design so I'll be working on some more designs for my sidekick and my alien race.
Seeing that I finally have an idea on what I want Dude Danger to look like I started to work on a sidekick. When I was first given this assignment I wanted to go for more of a small alien rather than a robot but as of this week I have changed my mind. I'm really happy with how this designed turned out but I felt like they needed some more changes.

After doing some more research I finally got a design that I really like, now this could change but for now I'm really happy with the way the sidekick looks.
The sidekick is called 'Data' due to being the smarter one in the duo. I have gone for a red and grey retro look which looks great on Data so I think these colours will be used in the final design.
This is what Data looks like at the moment, it still needs work but I'm happy with how Data is turning out so far.

Now for my level design, not a lot has been done this week because I finished most of the blocking last week. This week I have mainly been working on finishing the blocking for the upstairs. I have also been messing around with different lighting and effects to give me an idea on how I was the house to look. I will have so more updates about my level in the up and coming weeks when I start adding assets to the level.

Anyways that's everything for now,

Level and Character Progress

Last week I shown off a few pictures of my level. Due to problems with scaling and snapping I decided it would easier for me to start over.

So far I have built the downstairs which has a living room, kitchen, office, toilet and a box room. I will show more of these rooms in the up and coming weeks.
Due to only starting over yesterday, I'm still working on the upstairs of my level. I will have this finished for my next post but the upstairs will have two bedrooms for the children, a master bedroom and a bathroom.
This is a picture that I have been working on this week, its very simple but I think some more work could be done. I want the staircase to look broken as well as light shining in from the window above the staircase. The wall will look dirty but i'll add detail like this at a later date.

This week I have also been working on some more character designs. Mainly on the Alien Race and the 'Good Guy'. So far for the Alien Race I'm going for a classic alien look with Sci-Fi looking amour and weapons. As you can see in this picture I really like the design with amour and the large gun, so far this is my favorite design.
In this picture even though its mainly the same classic alien look. I am going for something a little different. These are only quick sketches so I could change my mind at anytime but I'm really happy on how these are turning out so far.
Now for my 'Good Guy' I'm going for a more human/robot kind of look or at least a human in a robot looking suit. As you can see in most of these designs thats normally the case.

I'm thinking of maybe doing a design of half human and half robot I think this would be really good and it would give the 'Good Guy' an interesting back story.
This is a drawing that I have been working on today. I through I would do a design which shows different stages of the drawing. I really like it, I think I'm going to do this with more of my sketches. I'm really happy with this design. I do think the body needs some work but apart from that this could be good for a final design.

Anyways that's everything for now,

Level and Character Design

This week, I've started making my level using Unreal Engine 4. At this moment I'm just setting up the foundation of my level, I think I should have this completed next week then I can start modelling within the building.
As you can see in this picture this is the ground floor of the building. This picture is taken in the living room which is next to the kitchen and the hall.
This is the upper floor of the building. I haven't had time to start making the rooms yet but I should have this finished for next week so I will keep you updated.

As I mentioned in my post 'Level Design and Digital Painting' The story behind this level is when the teenager visits the master bedroom of the house they will find blood all over the bed with a trail of bed that leads to a door which the teenager can't access. This is the picture that I'm working on at the moment to give me an idea on what It will actually look like within the level.

I've finished that drawing that I was working on the other week. This week we've been given the design brief for this assignment. I have to design a Sci-Fi hero, sidekick and a alien race that they will encounter.
This week I'm going to do some research to give me a better idea on how I want the hero, sidekick and alien race to be designed. I will keep you updated on my progress with this assignment.
Today I have done a few sketches for the sidekick. We were given the option to do either a little alien or little robot as the sidekick so far I'm not fully sure what I want to do so I'm just throwing ideas out there. I'm going to work on some hero ideas this weekend or possibly next week.

Due to being ill last week I missed out working on the cube-craft character so this week I started to work on it. I have to say I'm really happy with the way it turned out.
My idea for this project was to get one of my favorite childhood cartoon characters and make them into a blood hungry zombie and this is the outcome.

Well that's everything for this week.

Level Design and Digital Painting

After finishing my vehicle last week, Its time to move onto on a project which is level design. I have to say I'm really excited to start this project. I want my level to be about an old abandoned house that has been boarded up for a couple of years.
In the level you will play as a teenager who want to check out the house to see what's inside but sadly for him this is the last thing he wants to do due to what he finds inside.
Inside the house It looks really battered with everything inside messed up and damaged. The windows are boarded up but light leaks ins.
Once the teenager visits the master bedroom he will find blood all over the bed with a trail going into a small room in the master room, the problem is the player wont have access to this room.
The whole object to this level is to find clues on what happened in this house. the player will have to find notes, weapons and other clues to have a better idea on what went on in this house.

The garden to the house will have a creepy feeling to it with weird looking ornaments and overgrown plants.
The player will start in the garden and then they will head into the house.

This week I have also started a digital painting class. In this class we will learn different skills in Photoshop. Using these skills will help me improve my skills in my concept work and as an artists.
This is the picture that I am working on at the moment. This picture is going toward my character development, Instead of going for a Bandos look I'm going to try out some different ideas. I'm really happy on the way this one is turning out, I'll keep you updated on this drawing in the following weeks.

Well that's everything for now.

Final Renders

These past couple of posts about this project have just been small updates, This is because I couldn't make my mind up on how I wanted the vehicle to look but that all changed this week.

This week I have mainly been working on finishing small touches on my vehicle. This means I have mainly been working on the specular and bump maps.

Once I finished working on my specular and bump maps I added some reflection maps to my vehicle look more shiny.
Adding the specular maps and the reflection maps has gave the vehicle a really nice shiny finish which what I was looking for.

One of the bigger changes I made this week was changing the glass on the vehicle. Before this week It was very blocky with a simple white texture. I wasn't happy with how this was rendering so I changed it by adding a auto smooth and adding a Autodesk Metallic Paint to the glass to give it that nice finish. I also added a reflection map to the glass. I was really happy with that way this turned out.

Well that's everything for now.

Small Changes Vehicle Progress #6

This week I have decided to redesign some parts of the vehicle. For starters I have re-textured the panel on the inner engine of the vehicle. I did this redesign because I haven't been happy with it for awhile now so I thought I would re-texture the panel.

I have also remodeled 'the barrel' which came off the body of the vehicle. I did this because I thought it had no reason to be there so I redesigned it to look like a booster, which would better explain how the vehicle takes off.

This is what the Vehicle looks like now from the front, side and back.

I should have this finished in the next week or so, there is only bits and bobs to finish off and I'll be done.

Well that's everything for now.
