Tweaks

Model with waist coat

This week I have been working on my model. I have made some small changes since last week.
I have made the shirt and waist coat as a separate model which makes the model its self look a lot better.

I have also made some small tweaks to the shirt, waist coat and the jacket.

Well that's everything for now.

Modelling, Mudbox and more. #2

It's been about two weeks since I did my last post and alot has happened.
Since the last post there has been alot of changes to my mudbox project. I have started adding paint and textures and it's coming along nicely, I'm going to try and have this finish in the next two weeks.

I have also been working on some concepts to go toward my character. I have been working on his pocket watch and a few different character poses. I will be adding some more poses to this drawing in the next few days.

In the past three weeks I have started working on the 3D model of myself so far I have finished the head and now I'm working on the body.
Well that's everything for now.

Modelling, Mudbox and more.

This week I have been modelling my own face in 3DS Max, using Mudbox to create a creepy looking puppet and drawing up a concept for my characters pocket watch.

I will be uploading some screenshots of the head im working on at a later date due to it being in the early stages.

This week I have nearly finished working on the face of this puppet, I'm planning on adding hair next week so then I can get started on texturing.
I've been modelling the head today but I've been having some trouble with making the nose and the ears, so I've decided that I will work on it next week instead so that I can move onto other pieces of work that needs finishing.
Today I have drawn up a pocket watch that my character can use, this is just a quick drawing. I will be adding some more colour and detail in the next couple of days.
Once I have finished this sketch I'm going to work on a final concept so that I can put more of my attention into the 3D side.

Well that's everything for now.

Three Game Companies

Last year I written a document about three companies I would love to work for once I finish my degree in GameArt. I thought now would be a good time for me to share it with you guys.

Jagex
I’m really interested with working with Jagex on their game ‘Runescape’. I would love to work on some concepts ideas and have some of my work implemented in game. I would also like to work on some of the characters models and environments. I have been playing Runescape for about 10 years now so this would be a dream come true to work on one of my favourite games of all time.

Naughty Dog
Naughty Dog is one of my favourite gaming companies of all time just due to the fact that they made the Crash bandicoot series which was and still is one of my favourite series. Even though Naughty Dog don’t own the rights to Crash bandicoot anymore they have made so great games after it such as Jak and Daxter, the Uncharted games and there most recent ‘The Last of Us’. I would love to work on some of the character designs on some of Naughty Dogs games like Jak and Daxter because my type of drawing style would fit into those games really well just like it would with the Crash Bandicoot series.

Insomniac Games
Just like Naughty Dog, Insomniac Games is one of my favourite gaming companies of all time this is mainly because of the Spyro series, this is a series I still go back to now and then. Just like Naughty Dog, Insomniac Games no longer own the Spyro series which is a real shame but they do more other great games like Ratchet and Clank. I would love to work for a company like Insomniac games because they make high quality games with great storylines and graphics. I would love to do some concept art or some of the 3D character models for the Ratchet and Clank series; I think my drawing style would fit into these games really well.

I'm thinking about posting another blog entry on here very soon about video games being considered as art so make sure you check that out once its posted. Also I will be posting another entry in the next couple of days on this weeks updates on what I'm working on in college.

Well that's everything for now.

College Return

This week I returned back to college and I was given a new unit called Character Modelling.
I have been told that I need to make the following:
  • A Bounty Hunter who is from the year 5220
  • He needs to reflect the era that he has gone back to
  • He should have a futuristic weapon
  • A weapon from the era he's going to
  • A time travel device
I have picked my character to go back to Victorian England.

For his futuristic weapon I have given my character a modded cane which can also be used as a shotgun.
Throughout the week I wasn't to happy with the handle of the Cane Shotgun so I decided to change the handle with a few small changes. I think this could be the final design.
This is what I want the character looks like. I may make some changes in the future.
At the moment I have only done one design for the time device, I have given the character a pocket watch. I thought this fit the character pretty well.
In this unfinished drawing I have the character opening up his blazer to show off the gun he will be using. This gun will be from the Victorian age.
I will show the finished version of this drawing in my next post.

Well that's everything for now.

**Edit**

Because I'm not planning on posting my next blog post until next week, I thought I would add the finished drawing to this post.

Summer Break and College Return

Throughout August I haven't really been working on any projects, this was because I took a break to enjoy the last few weeks of the summer before I go back to college.

I have done one drawing throughout this month which was a handgun for the hero that I made for a college project called 'Dude Danger' I might do some concept art with Dude Danger and the handgun at a later date.

This month I have decided to make a Facebook page for my artwork. I will be using this page to show off my work and post small little updates. Feel free to like the page: https://www.facebook.com/bibbyftwsgameart

I will be returing the college on the 7th to enroll onto the second year of my degree.

Well that's everything for now.

Thanks for reading and don't forget to check out the Facebook page.

Keeping myself busy...

For the past couple of weeks I've been pretty stumped on ideas when it comes to drawing and 3D work.
Recently I have decided that I want to do a drawing project were I draw myself as a video game character which I have done with this drawing. The idea of this drawing was taken from the game Runescape.
I have also been working on a few different faces. I'm planning on doing a few more of these before I do a full drawing again.
This week I have also been working on some 3D work by making a bed. The idea is to make my bedroom but we'll see were this idea goes. I have put this model into Unreal 4 but I have had a few lighting problems. Hopefully I can sort this out before the next post otherwise I'll show you the problems I'm having.
This is what the Bed looks like at the moment. I'm thinking of re-doing the mapping on the pillow and the quilt but apart from that I'm pretty happy with the way It's looking.

Well that's everything for now.

Scrapped Ideas And Whats Next?

After a month of working on this level I have decided that I'm going to scrap this level due to not liking the way it has turned out. I may come back to this level at a later date but for now I'm going to leave it as it is.

This is the last screenshot of my level. This screenshot shows the last asset I made which was a barrel. I really wanted to post this on here because I was really happy with this way it turned out. I may reuse this in another level that I make in the future.
Seeing that I've scrapped this level for the time being I have been focusing on my drawings.
I have been drawing my character from the game Runescape. I have been doing this just to improve my drawing skills and try out different things like textures etc.
After doing these drawings I thought about doing a little drawing project over the summer. I wanted to draw myself as a video game character just like these two. We did something like this in the first year of my degree.

Unfinished Drawing

Today I started that idea with this drawing. As you can see I've takes alot of ideas from the game Runescape but I have added a few of my own ideas just to change it up alittle.

My plan is now to expand on this idea and see were it takes me.

Well that's everything for now.

Progress on the Sword Shop

This week I have mainly been working on the building itself by finishing the roof, floor, door and the window frames.

This is what the sword shop looks like from the outside before the window frames and the door was added.
This is what the room now looks like at the moment.
I have also added two new swords. I have also scaled down the swords due to them being too big.

In the next couple of days I want to add a texture to the ceiling and move on to the staff shop.

Well that's everything for now.

The Start Of A New Project

This week I have started my small town by making four small shops.
The shops are going to be the following:

  • Sword Shop
  • Shield Shop

  • General Store

If I have enough time I'm going to work on some more building but for now this is what I'll be working on.

This is what the room looks like so far, I've textured the walls and the floor and added in two assets, a normal table and a display table which will show off some of the swords.

Well that's everything for now, I should have some more updates in the next couple of days but till then, thanks for reading.

Project Videos

This year I have worked on three different projects for my degree. My plan was to show off my work in a video for each project. So far I have made a video for the first and the second project. I'm planning on doing the third at a later date. When I've made the video for my third project which is my level I will make a updated post.

Please make sure to check out both videos and leave me some feedback, thanks!

Well that's everything for now.

Thanks for checking out my videos,

Daniel Bibby.

The Break and What's Next?

Since I finished my level, I have taken some time off working so that I can have some time to myself and relax for a few weeks.
In that time I have worked on some drawings like the ones you can see here, There nothing special just cartoon drawings what I normally work on in my spare time. With the Crash Bandicoot and Sonic drawing I did test out some overlays on Photoshop to see what works and what doesn't. I found that using overlays made this drawing look much better.
After nearly three weeks I'm finally thinking about working on a project over the summer till I go back to college for the second year of my degree.

At the moment I'm thinking about doing a medevil town and building upon it over time. I want to make a town like Varrock from the game Runescape.
Here is a simple floor plan of what I want to do over the summer. Last night I did start out the blocking out process on unreal but I'll show some screenshots at a later date. At the moment I just want to work on four different shops and maybe add something in the middle of the town. If I have enough time I will expand on this but for now this is just an idea.

Well that's everything for now.
